The department seeks to improve the institutional capacities of key justice service providers to enable them to effectively serve the poor and disadvantaged. The Access to Justice initiave is being rolled out in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh where interventions like legal literacy, training of Sabla girls, training of paralegal volunteers under NALSA scheme, Justice Innovation Fund, young lawyers for justice fellowship programme etc are being implemented.

The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has been constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 to provide free Legal Services to the weaker sections of the society and to organise Lok Adalats for amicable settlement of disputes.

UNDP Partners with people at all level of society to build nations that can withstand crisis, and drive and sustain the kind of growth that improves the quality of life for everyone. UNDP launched the "Access to Justice" initiative to enhance government interaction with citizens, focus on right to information, inclusive growth and quick and inexpensive delivery of justice with speed and affordability by strengthening legal aid and empowerment for marginalized people.

OneWorld Foundation India works in collaboration with governments, multilateral organisations, corporates and the civil society for furthering social and sustainable development. The OneWorld network uses Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), creates and disseminates information on development issues, and also reaches out to the people at the grassroots level through innovative communication mediums.

Access to Justice

NyayaPath is an innovative Access to Justice initiative to enable marginalised and other communities in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh to use technology to access information on welfare laws, policies and schemes in local languages like Santhali and Chhattisgarhi. Read more...

In the first phase, deployment of 25 kiosks was done in the state of Jharkhand covering all 25 districts in the month of March and April 2014 in Ranchi, Palamu, Godda, Chaibasa, Latehar, Dumka, Jamshedpur, Lohardaga, Hazaribagh, Gumla, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Saraikela, Giridih, Kodarma, Chatra, Deoghar, Jamtara, Garhwa, Sahibganj, Tenu Ghat, Pakur, Khunti, Simdega and Ramgarh.

The second phase of deployment began in October 2014 in the state of Chhattisgarh. 25 kiosks where placed in District Courts of Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Kondagaon, Mahasamund, Korba, Koriya, Sarguja, Surajpur, Jashpur, Bastar (Jagdalpur), Kanker, Rajnandagaon, Balod, Baloda Bazar, Kawardha, Raigarh, Dhamtari, Janjgir Champa, Dantewada, Gariyabandh, Narayanpur, Ramanuganj, Mungeli and Bemetara.
